what we're talking about here for romney election, it has absolutely skyrocketed. probably in the low 30s at the end of september and up around 50. and, you know, put open interest is probably 30% higher than call open interest, that's highly unusual for pretty much any stock. >> and we should remind everybody, you can catch more health care coverage at healthy week.cnbc.com, and tune in for coverage of the vice presidential debate. let's also talk coal stocks because coal and coal stocks have been on fire, forgive the pun. since it was perceived that mitt romney was gaining some momentum over president obama. and of course, after he said i like coal. so what do we see here? mike in terms of the options run we've seen in these stocks. >> yeah, we've seen a lot, actually, finally, of bullish activity. these things were all but left for dead. ticker anr saw a lot of november 8 call activity earlier today, probably almost 10,000 of those contracts have traded at about $1.06, a bet that the stock will be above $9, above shortly thereafter, december, 9 and 10 calls beca

romney is talking about there is glen doherty. mr. doherty is the former navy s.e.a.l., one of the four americans killed in benghazi on the u.s. consulate attack in september. mr. romney told that same story about meeting mr. doherty yesterday while campaigning in iowa. >> he skied a lot, he skied in some of the places i had. we had a lot of things in common. he told me that he keeps going back to the middle east. he cares very deeply about the people there. you can imagine how i felt when i found out that he was one of the two former navy s.e.a.l.s killed in benghazi on september 11th. and it -- it touched me, obviously, as i recognized this young man that i thought was so impressive. he -- according to the reports on cnn international that i read, he was actually in a different building, in an annex, a safe place, somewhere else across town when he and his colleagues there heard that the consulate was around attack. and they went there. they didn't hunker down where they were in safety. they rushed there to go help. this is the amer

so we talked to romney's state director and the local chair. here's how they see the race. >> we've got a lot of people who voted for obama in '08 who were independents in our victory centers saying i'm trying to make up for my vote in '08. >> the energy that's building among the democratic base and among those independents who supported the president four years ago, that's happening again right now. >> and so you get a sense that both sides feel confident. it's really hard to tell, chuck, which way it will go because as we went block by block, we saw u a lot of energy on both sides, so it's about repeating for democrats. about trying to get back to tradition for republicans. chuck? >> we're going to do this one county at a time if we're lucky. there are not that many swing counties in the battleground states. thank you very much. >>> the world bank has cut its outlook for china. becky quick is here. i imagine fear of china in slow growth will spook the markets today? >> that's what's happening, chuck. we've been watching this morning. we've be

ixnay on the talking. vice president joe biden took the final topic of last night's debate, issue of abortion rights and hit paul ryan with it pretty forcefully. >> if anyone had a doubt about what's at state in this election, when it comes to women's rights, and the supreme court, i'm sure they were said last night. it was made clear last night that they don't believe in protecting a woman's access to health care. it was made very clear that they do not believe a woman has a right to control her own body. these guys have a social policy out of the '50s. >> that was joe biden's first major campaign appearance today after last night's big event with paul ryan. now, paul ryan's first public appearance after last night's debate was not that moment on the tarmac with mitt romney with the funny microphone, it was actually this. his campaign did one of those odd way too personal things where they allowed the press in to witness his family doing an otherwise normal family thing. in this case eating breakfast. it

mitt romney, if you listen carefully to what he said, he talks about legislation. well, that's very different as you and i know, brooke, from supporting nominees to the supreme court who would outlaw abortion, who would overturn roe v. wade. that's very different than supporting legislation that would try to do that in congress. and so i think that might be the distinction there that mitt romney is going for. as you mentioned, a few moments ago, he has evolved on this issue over the years and romney has not shied away from that. he admitted back in 2004 that when he was governor of massachusetts that he had had a conversion on this issue. it was when he was basically told about what happened to embryos during stem cell research, that is when he says he had an epiphany on the issue of life and from then on forward he has been pretty staunchly anti-abortion. >> so, let me jump in, because you any, you say distinction, we could call it knnuance, that th nuance on this abortion issue is cropping up as the president and his supporters are accusing romney of flip-floppin
